The office of Europe Direct Ionian Islands at the Ionian University welcomed students and teachers from Lixouri General Lyceum as part of their educational visit to Argostoli on 23 April, with the aim of informing young people and encouraging their participation in European affairs.
The visitors were briefed by the Centre’s Communication Officer on how the European Union works and on the decision-making process within the European institutions, with particular emphasis on the role of the European Parliament. Special reference was made to the participation of Lixouri General Lyceum in the European Parliament Ambassador Schools network (EPAS), highlighting the importance of European education and the active democratic participation of students.
The students were also briefly informed about the opportunities for participation and mobility offered by the European Union to young people, as well as about initiatives that strengthen European identity and active European citizenship.
